Vesak honors the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Lord Buddha. During the full moon of May, the entire island transforms into a vibrant tapestry of lights, devotion, and generosity — with festivities lasting at least a week.

Although a Buddhist festival, Vesak is embraced by people of all religions and communities across Sri Lanka. Streets and homes glow with colorful lanterns while the spirit of generous giving — the dansal — brings communities together in harmony.

Vesak is more than a religious observance; it is a celebration of peace, unity, and cultural harmony. It showcases the generosity of the Sri Lankan people and the timeless values of Buddhism that continue to inspire millions.
